Terms of Service

Effective date: October 15, 2026

These Terms of Service (these “Terms”) set out the conditions for using the macOS application “Plainsong” (the “App”) provided by shikakun (the “Developer”) on the Mac App Store. By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Scope

  1. These Terms govern the rights and obligations between the Developer and you (the “User”) regarding use of the App.
  2. The Developer distributes the App exclusively through the Mac App Store. Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions and the standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also apply to your acquisition and use of the App. If these Terms conflict with Apple’s terms, Apple’s terms prevail.

2. License

  1. The Developer grants you a non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the App subject to these Terms and Apple’s terms.
  2. The App is licensed, not sold, to you.

3. Your Data

  1. All rights to the text you write in the App belong to you. The Developer claims no rights whatsoever to it.
  2. Files saved with the App are plain text and can be viewed and edited in other apps. The Developer does not restrict this.
  3. The App does not send what you write or how you use the App to anyone. See the Privacy Policy for details.
  4. Based on your actions or autosave settings, the App overwrites the files you open when saving. You are responsible for backing up important data.

4. Price

The App is free to use. It has no in-app purchases or ads.

5. Intellectual Property

  1. Copyright and all other intellectual property rights in the App belong to the Developer or its rightful owners.
  2. The App includes files created by third parties, such as themes that define color schemes. The copyright in each file belongs to its author, and each file is used under the license specified by its author. The copyright and license notices are included in the license files bundled with the App.
  3. The source code of the App is provided under the Apache License 2.0, and image resources such as the app icon are provided under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Public License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The files covered are listed in the LICENSE file of the source code. Your use of them is governed by the respective licenses.
  4. You may not use the name “Plainsong” for copies or modified versions of the App.

6. Support

  1. The Developer provides support to a reasonable extent through the contact listed in Section 12.
  2. The Developer does not guarantee the provision of updates or the continued availability of any particular feature.

7. Disclaimer

The App is provided “as is.” The Developer does not warrant that the App is free from defects in fact or in law (including, without limitation, defects in safety, reliability, accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or security, and errors, bugs, or infringements of rights). You use the App at your own risk.

8. Changes to These Terms

  1. The Developer may amend these Terms without your individual consent, in accordance with Article 548-4 of the Civil Code of Japan, where:
    1. the amendment conforms to the general interest of Users; or
    2. the amendment is not contrary to the purpose of these Terms and is reasonable in light of the necessity of the amendment, the appropriateness of the amended content, and other circumstances pertaining to the amendment.
  2. When amending these Terms, the Developer will post the amended Terms and their effective date on this page a reasonable period before the effective date. For material changes, the Developer will also endeavor to give notice in the App Store release notes.
  3. If you continue to use the App on or after the effective date of an amendment, the amended Terms apply to you.

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

  1. These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan.
  2. Any dispute arising in connection with the App or these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court (or the Tokyo Summary Court for cases within the jurisdiction of a summary court) as the court of first instance, except where mandatory consumer protection provisions or other applicable laws provide for the application of the law, or the jurisdiction of the courts, of your place of residence.

10. Severability

If any provision of these Terms, or any part of a provision, is held invalid or unenforceable under the Consumer Contract Act of Japan or any other applicable law, the remaining provisions of these Terms, and the remainder of any partially invalid or unenforceable provision, continue in full force and effect.

11. Language

The governing text of these Terms is the Japanese version (利用規約). This English version is provided for reference; if there is any discrepancy, the Japanese version prevails.

12. Contact
